Steuterman-Hardison Rededicatory Organ Recital

Friday, May 9, at 7:30 p.m.

Join us for a memorable celebration of the restoration of our iconic 1935 Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ, featuring the triumphant return of the recovered stolen pipes, on Friday, May 9, at 7:30 p.m.! This Steuterman-Hardison rededicatory recital will be performed by the talented Todd Wilson, head of the organ department at The Cleveland Institute of Music and curator of the magnificent E.M. Skinner pipe organ at Severance Hall in Cleveland, OH. Don’t miss this extraordinary event that honors our musical heritage and showcases this remarkable instrument.

A gala reception will follow, sponsored by the families of Laurie & Brooks Monypeny and Ellie & Josh Hardison.

Evensong with Memphis Boy and Girl Choirs

Sunday, May 4, at 5 p.m.

Calvary will be filled with music sung by generations of choristers on the first Sunday of May. The service starts with a special prelude by the Memphis Boy & Girl choirs, and their Training Choir, directed by Dr. Patrick Scott and Debbie Smith (Grace-St. Luke’s). Then, the Memphis Boy and Girl Choirs will join the Calvary Choir to sing the beautiful service of Evensong together.

Organ at the Movies

Friday, May 16, at 6:30 p.m.

Come hear Calvary’s newly-restored Aeolian-Skinner organ as you never have before! Dr. Scott Elsholz, music director at St. Louis Catholic Church, will perform a program featuring some of the most beloved themes from movie soundtracks, including Star Wars, Harry Potter, Interstellar, Lord of the Rings, Jurassic Park, Titanic, and even a Frozen sing-a-long with the St. Louis School Children’s Choir! Watch as scenes of each movie are projected on a large screen in the front of the church, and join us for a movie concession reception following. The program is free and all ages (and movie costumes) are welcome!

Calvary Episcopal Church’s mission is to make God’s love visible in downtown Memphis. The Friends of Music ministry seeks to make it visible by enhancing the sacred music of Calvary’s liturgies, while also opening the doors of Calvary to the larger community of the Mid-South for a variety of concert opportunities. If you would like to become a Friend of Music, please contact Kristin Lensch, or click the Donate button below.
