Sept 29: Janel Bakker, Faith, Hope, and Elections
In the midst of tumultuous times, the wisdom and courage of our predecessors can remind us of who we are called to be. Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a Lutheran pastor, theologian, and anti-Nazi dissident, wrote from prison that “the Church is the Church only when it exists for others…not dominating, but helping and serving.” This session will explore Bonhoeffer’s political theology with an eye toward our own turbulent context. Dr. Bakker is a Professor of the Sociology of Religion and of Social Justice at Memphis Theological Seminary and a good friend to Calvary.
