We mean that plainly, for everyone who walks through our doors — gay or straight, transgender or cisgender, partnered or single or divorced, certain in your faith or still working it out. Calvary Episcopal Church welcomes and affirms lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning people fully and without qualification, and we welcome straight people just as fully. You’re welcome to worship here, serve here, lead here, and be married here, whoever you are and whoever you love.

Calvary marches in the Mid-South Pride Parade and staffs a booth at Memphis Pride Fest every year, passing out free hugs and rainbow-colored copies of the Book of Common Prayer. We host an LGBTQIA+ brunch every month and a holiday social every December, open, like everything else here, to anyone who wants to come. And we’re part of a denomination that got here before we did: in 1976, the Episcopal Church’s General Convention affirmed that LGBTQ+ people have “a full and equal claim…upon the love, acceptance, and pastoral concern and care of the Church,” a promise that, 50 years later, reaches all the way to ordination. Today, any layperson, deacon, priest, or bishop in the Episcopal Church can be openly LGBTQ+.
