Vestry

Calvary’s vestry, the parish’s governing body, shares the parish’s leadership with the rector and consists of 15 members, who are nominated and elected by the congregation for three-year terms. They meet to oversee the temporal affairs of the parish, as well as to support the rector and staff in promoting the spiritual welfare of the parish. In addition, the vestry, in conjunction with the finance committee, is accountable for the fiscal responsibility of Calvary Church. Vestry members also share leadership responsibility for the ministry groups of the church.

Five vestry members are elected annually, so there are five “new” members each year, five who have served one year already and five who have served two years. The by-laws of Calvary state that a retiring vestry member is ineligible for re-election to the vestry until three years have passed. Once in place, a senior and junior warden are chosen to serve as vestry leaders. A clerk who supports the vestry and the warden’s committee is also selected. The warden’s committee, which meets monthly with the rector, is comprised of the senior warden, junior warden, treasurer, clerk, and an at-large member.

Vestry meetings are open to all interested in attending. The meetings take place on the third Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. unless listed otherwise on the calendar.

Calvary is a place where we can exhale, relax, consider life around us and our place in it.” Bill worked as a critically acclaimed photojournalist, writer, and magazine editor for nearly 40 years, focusing on the interpretation of culture and the influence of religion, peacemaking, hunger, and the environment. His work and travel have taken him to 70-some countries. Bill’s photographic and writing talents have been featured in the Chronicle.
