Before you dive into the frenzied month of December, join us on the first Sunday of Advent, Dec. 1, at 4 p.m., to redefine the concept of “expectation” in a more spiritual sense. Concentrate on what Mary was expecting, what the world was expecting, and what you can expect from God. In this service, you will hear traditional scripture of Genesis, Isaiah, and Luke, alongside poetry by Wendell Berry, Thomas Merton, and Denise Levertov. Coupled with that are anthems by Cecilia McDowall, Elizabeth Poston, Shirley McRae, and Arvo Pärt sung by the Calvary Choir, the Boys and Girls Choir, and the St. Cecilia Choir. Afterward, have a moment of fellowship with us and share cookies and a cup of hot chocolate in the Great Hall. All are welcome to this free Advent Service of Lessons & Carols.
