When I first saw the banner in the Calvary Commons that says, “Connect • Grow • Serve,” I began to think about the ways I connect, grow, and serve at Calvary. I connected with Calvary long ago through open arms, gentle hugs, and genuine smiles. My connection here is to help others in their time of need and help them focus on their spiritual journey, guiding them on their way. Showing hospitality, guidance, and love to an individual can open many doors and opportunities that can help them prosper in their ways. I always try to make sure people feel seen and heard.
My growth here began through conversations, both with members of the church and our neighbors. I started attending the Tuesday morning women’s Bible study and the Noon Eucharist every week. And I can’t leave out the bell choir, which brings so much joy to my heart. Being here at Calvary has not only deepened my spirituality but also deepened a sense of connection and purpose in my life. This church sees the importance that growth plays in an individual’s faith and offers so many opportunities for that growth. It has driven me to be more observant and have the insight to do better each day.
When I think of the word serve, my mind goes wild with images of Calvary members and volunteers pouring out their hearts to care for our neighbors by bringing in clothes, shoes, belts, hats, toiletries, books for them to read, and even breakfast bags and coffee for the neighbors on Sunday morning. That kind of experience and participation inspires me to serve others with love and care. I feel truly blessed to be part of such a wonderful community.
What three words can you think of that keep you striving here at Calvary Episcopal Church?
