2020 LPS and Waffle Shop season will finish today: March 12

Due to concerns about the spread of COVID-19, today (Thursday, March 12) will be the last day of Calvary’s Waffle Shop and Lenten Preaching Series (LPS) for 2020. We have been in daily contact with Dr. Henry Sullivant along the way, and are deeply grateful for his wise and knowledgeable counsel. We are also grateful for the Waffle Shop and LPS staff and volunteers, who have conscientiously implemented extra precautions and sanitation measures to better ensure the safety of our guests and volunteers. Without all of these faithful people, Lenten Preaching and Waffle Shop simply would not be. And lives are changed through the preaching and table fellowship people experience at Calvary each Lent.

While there’s no way to deliver tomato aspic, fish pudding, or Tennessee bourbon pie digitally, remember that you can watch and listen to our Lenten Preaching Series speakers on our website or in our new podcast. And past years are available in our LPS Archive. Maybe this Lenten season will be a time for you to make a practice of listening to some of the great LPS voices from years past.

Sunday worship at Calvary will go on. For now, let us all give thanks for the miracle of Waffle Shop and LPS, which we believe will be back strong as ever in 2021!

Finally, do take the commonsense advice of our healthcare providers and experts:

  • Don’t expose others if you have flu-like symptoms (i.e. stay home if you’re sick!)
  • Cover your cough with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash and wash your hands, or cough or sneeze into your upper arm.
  • Wash your hands frequently and properly, and use 60% alcohol hand sanitizer as when soap and water is not available (note for Episcopalians: singing the Doxology 2X = 20 seconds)
  • Don’t touch your mouth, nose or eyes.
  • Avoid people who have flu-like symptoms.
  • Reassess travel plans based on CDC recommendations.
