DESCRIPTION:The Boys and Girls Choir\, made up of students with unchanged voices in grades three and up\, sings semi-monthly at the 10:30 a.m. worship service. Using the Voice for Life curriculum established by the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM)\, Organist-Choirmaster Kristin Lensch promotes a complete and quality approach to children’s music ministry that is as much a Christian education experience as it is a musical training experience. Choristers often become peer leaders over time as they progress through the program. Rehearsal is on Wednesdays from 6:15 to 7 p.m. Afterward\, they attend Compline until 7:15 p.m.

SUMMARY:Calvary Choir
DESCRIPTION:Both professional singers and auditioned volunteers make up Calvary’s primary group of choristers: the Calvary Choir. The choir sings each week at the 10:30 a.m. worship service\, monthly Evensong\, and offers special liturgical services and concerts during the year. While strongly based in the music of the Anglican church\, their repertoire spans centuries and global traditions\, from plainsong to spirituals. In addition to making music at home\, the Calvary Choir has traveled to England to participate in a week-long choral residency at the Bristol Cathedral. They are known for both their dedication to and love of music and close camaraderie. Interested singers should contact Organist-Choirmaster Kristin Lensch.

Facing Mental Health Challenges Faithfully! \nThe first step in facing mental health challenges faithfully is to recognize we are not alone. Over our lifetimes\, most of us will face some type of mental health challenge – personally\, within our families\, our church community\, our workplaces\, or our neighborhoods. We can faithfully face these challenges by growing our awareness of mental health warning signs and resources for healing and growth. We can also be faithful in helping to increase access for those most in need of mental health services by becoming advocates\, connectors\, and supporters of organizations like Samaritan Counseling Centers of the Mid-South.

SUMMARY:Holy Eucharist Rite II
DESCRIPTION:The 10:30 a.m. Eucharist attracts a widely varied congregation of all ages\, including a strong contingent of young families. Music is led by the semi-professional Calvary Choir with participation from our Boys and Girls Choir\, St. Cecilia Choir (second grade and younger)\, and the Calvary Ringers handbell choir. \nWe also live-stream our Sunday morning Holy Eucharist at 10:30 a.m. each Sunday. DESCRIPTION:Jared Millson\, Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Rhodes College \nAdvancements in Artificial Intelligence are poised to reshape everything from the economy to our artistic and expressive practices. Since the transformations wrought by these new technologies are both dramatic and accelerating\, it’s natural to approach them with trepidation. But\, as is so often the case\, much of our fear is born of ignorance. In this tutorial\, I provide a brief overview of the field of Artificial Intelligence—its history\, methods\, and philosophical commitments. With this background\, we’ll turn to some of the social\, environmental\, and ethical challenges confronting the development and deployment of artificial systems. While these new technologies raise many legitimate concerns\, they also hold enormous promise for a better world.

DESCRIPTION:The Wake Forest University Chamber Choir\, the premier choral organization on campus\, will tour the Southeastern United States from May 11-17\, 2024. They will be in Memphis on Monday\, May 13 at 7:00 p.m.\, to perform Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem with the choirs of Calvary and Grace-St. Luke’s\, accompanied by Dr. Patrick Scott of Grace-St. Luke’s. A highly select\, auditioned mixed ensemble\, the Chamber Choir performs the standard choral repertoire as well as newly composed and commissioned choral literature. The Chamber Choir represents Wake Forest at the University’s annual Moravian Lovefeast\, in its performances with the Winston-Salem Symphony\, and through national and international annual tours.
