SUMMARY:Lunches for The Emmanuel Center's Homecoming Day
DESCRIPTION:Parishioners\, Staff\, and Friends of Calvary\, please join us to make sack lunches for children to enjoy at the Emmanuel Center’s Homecoming Celebration on Wednesday\, Oct. 29. We wish to provide 70 lunches and will gather together to pack them from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. in Calvary’s Mural Room. Some lunch supplies will be provided\, but we also welcome your contributions of sandwiches\, snacks\, and treats. If you prefer to make your lunches at home\, please do so and deliver them to the church after 9 a.m. that morning. If you have questions\, please contact jbusby@calvarymemphis.org. DESCRIPTION:Close your day with prayer at Evensong\, a longstanding liturgy of the Anglican Church. Rooted in the ancient Christian monastic tradition of pausing for prayer at certain points of the day\, prayers are sung by the choir during a forty-minute service. \nIn November\, Calvary Choir is collaborating with the Parish Choir of Grace-St. Luke’s to present a special service of Evensong to commemorate the Feast of All Saints. Featuring music by Maggie Burk (Carthage College)\, Roland Martin (University of Buffalo)\, and the magnificent anthem “Blessed City\, Heavenly Salem” by Edward Bairstow (early 20th-century English composer). The necrology will be read to name those who have been buried from here since All Saints’ Day 2024.

It’s the perfect way to show the community how much you love them. \nIn addition\, everyone is welcome to volunteer for Soup Sunday\, and no cooking skills or long-term commitments are required. We would love to have you join us just once\, or as often as your schedule allows\, and bring a friend or family member of any age; there is always something for everyone to do. For the November 9 Soup Sunday\, soup prep starts at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday\, the 8th\, and we plan to be packaged and cleaned up by noon. However\, if you can’t spare the entire morning\, feel free to join and leave us as your schedule allows. Even arriving as late as 11:00 a.m. for packaging and cleanup would be a big help.
