DESCRIPTION:Close your day with prayer at Evensong\, a longstanding liturgy of the Anglican Church. Rooted in the ancient Christian monastic tradition of pausing for prayer at certain points of the day\, prayers are sung by the choir during a forty-minute service. Instead of being ‘told’ what to think\, the Evensong congregation is invited to listen\, meditate\, and simply enjoy the music and words. In this way\, the experience is intended to be immersive and peaceful\, and many describe attending Evensong as restorative\, even if they aren’t religious.

Don’t miss this extraordinary event that honors our musical heritage and showcases this remarkable instrument. \nPerformed by the talented Todd Wilson\, head of the organ department at The Cleveland Institute of Music and curator of the magnificent E.M. Skinner pipe organ at Severance Hall in Cleveland\, OH\, this program will include many audience favorites such as Bach’s Passacaglia\, music from Bizet’s opera Carmen\, a transcription of Danny Boy (Londonderry Air)\, and Widor’s famous Toccata from the Fifth Organ Symphony. Also featured on this concert is a piece from the original dedication service in 1935: César Franck’s Chorale in A Minor. \nA gala reception will follow\, sponsored by the families of Laurie & Brooks Monypeny and Ellie & Josh Hardison.

DESCRIPTION:The Wake Forest University Chamber Choir\, the premier choral organization on campus\, will tour the Southeastern United States from May 11-17\, 2024. They will be in Memphis on Monday\, May 13 at 7:00 p.m.\, to perform Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem with the choirs of Calvary and Grace-St. Luke’s\, accompanied by Dr. Patrick Scott of Grace-St. Luke’s. A highly select\, auditioned mixed ensemble\, the Chamber Choir performs the standard choral repertoire as well as newly composed and commissioned choral literature. The Chamber Choir represents Wake Forest at the University’s annual Moravian Lovefeast\, in its performances with the Winston-Salem Symphony\, and through national and international annual tours.
