But after it was all over … I experienced devastating loneliness … It was in this condition that I first encountered Rembrandt’s Prodigal Son … my heart leaped when I saw it.” -From the Prologue of Henri Nouwen’s book The Return of the Prodigal Son: A Story of Homecoming. \nSaint Clare’s Silent Retreats are always experiential. A time to be with yourself and God in other people’s presence. A time to be with your heart more than with your intellect. It is a time to listen for the wisdom within rather than to the overabundance of information from myriad external sources. This year\, in between our silent spaces\, Ardelle Walters will lead us in our own encounters of Nouwen’s book and Rembrandt’s painting as they portray the ancient story of the prodigal.
