SUMMARY:Boys and Girls Choir
DESCRIPTION:The Boys and Girls Choir\, composed of students with unchanged voices in grades three and up\, sings semi-monthly at the 10:30 a.m. worship service. Using the Voice for Life curriculum established by the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM)\, Organist-Choirmaster Kristin Lensch promotes a complete\, high-quality approach to children’s music ministry that is as much a Christian education experience as a musical training experience. Choristers often become peer leaders over time as they progress through the program. \nRehearsal is on Wednesdays from 6:15 to 6:55 p.m. Afterward\, they attend Compline in the church until 7:15 p.m.

SUMMARY:Confirmation Class
DESCRIPTION:Whether you’re a newcomer or a lifelong Episcopalian\, this class is designed to go to the heart of what it means to be a follower of Christ in the Episcopal tradition. Over eight weeks\, our classes will be led by Calvary’s clergy\, lay leaders\, and one session with Bishop Phoebe Roaf. We’ll consider an Episcopal understanding of the Bible\, why we worship the way we do\, how we begin to understand God\, how to navigate the Book of Common Prayer\, spiritual practices\, and ways to make God’s love visible through Calvary’s ministries. \nThis class is open to all who wonder about their own faith and is also a path toward confirmation and fuller membership in the Episcopal Church through Calvary. If you feel further drawn in\, we will offer the Sacrament of Confirmation at the 10:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday\, December 6\, when the Bishop is our preacher and celebrant. \nWe will meet over eight consecutive Wednesday evenings\, October 7 – December 2 (skipping Thanksgiving week) from 6:15-7:15 in the Memphis Room. An optional meal is available beforehand\, beginning at 5:15 in the Mural Room (cost: $10)\, and free childcare is available for children five and under. \nIf you have questions or want more information about the class\, contact the Rev. Katherine Bush at kbush@calvarymemphis.org.

SUMMARY:Mutual Ministry Reflections
DESCRIPTION:Which of those ministries are most meaningful to you? What challenges do you believe we face as a congregation? What are your hopes and dreams for Calvary in the coming years? \n  \nThese are the questions we\, as a congregation\, will answer together this fall as we move through a process called Mutual  Ministry Reflection (MMR). An MMR is a way for parishes and leadership to assess how well we are fulfilling our responsibilities to each other and to the ministry we share. It seems particularly timely for us to undertake this process now that we are past our parish renovations. \n  \nThe Mutual Ministry Reflection will be strongest if as many of us as possible participate. That’s why the vestry is hosting several hour-long focus groups in the coming months to answer the questions above. \n  \n\nSunday\, Sept. 27: during formation at 9:15\n\n\nSunday\, Oct. 4: Coffee Hour at 11:30 \n\n\nWednesday\, Oct. 21: at 6:15 p.m. following dinner \n\n\nOctober TBD: Zoom meeting (details to come) \n\n\n  \nThe information we receive from these focus groups will inform the vestry and rector as they move through the rest of the Mutual Ministry Reflection process\, guided by Canon Rob Courtney from the diocesan office. What we learn will guide the vestry’s work over the next year and beyond. \nWhether you attend a focus group or not\, please pray for our leadership and the ongoing ministry of Calvary Episcopal Church. \nIf you have any questions\, please contact Senior Warden Allison Parker at allisonwparker@mac.com.

SUMMARY:Calvary Choir Rehearsal
DESCRIPTION:Both professional singers and auditioned volunteers make up Calvary’s primary group of choristers: the Calvary Choir. The choir sings each week at the 10:30 a.m. worship service\, monthly Evensong\, and offers special liturgical services and concerts during the year. While strongly rooted in the music of the Anglican Church\, their repertoire spans centuries and global traditions\, from plainsong to spirituals. \nIn addition to making music at home\, the Calvary Choir travels to England for a week-long choral residency at a cathedral every three years. They are known for both their dedication to and love of music\, as well as their close camaraderie. Interested singers should contact Organist-Choirmaster Kristin Lensch.
