DESCRIPTION:Sunday Formation is for young people in grades 6-12 to meet together on the 4th floor for activities and discussions oriented toward tending to our individual and collective spiritual formation by exploring scripture\, observing and celebrating the seasons of the liturgical calendar\, considering theological questions\, and sharing our journeys in discovering our place and purpose in the church. Most of the time\, we are in separate groups for middle school and high school.

When we come together in community to study\, pray\, and discuss the ways of God\, we are shaped and reshaped by new ideas and the perspectives of others. Sometimes we get a glimpse of God and of who God calls us to be. \nFormation suggests development\, and even a sense of structure … but structure\, like a cloud formation\, evolves\, grows\, and shifts. Come be formed and re-formed\, and possibly even made new. \n  \nSept. 27\nHattiloo’s 20th Anniversary & Why Black Theater Matters\nEkendayo Bandele \nEkundayo Bandele is a renowned playwright and theater director whose work has significantly impacted the American theater landscape. His latest play is “Speak Salvation Speak\,” which premiered in August of 2026 at Hattiloo\, the theater Bandele founded in 2006. As its CEO\, he curates annual seasons of plays and programs that celebrate Black culture. He successfully raised 10 million dollars to build and expand Hattiloo Theatre\, including a state-of-the-art facility and an endowment. He has also led international initiatives\, such as a theater management course in Sudan. \n

DESCRIPTION:Made in God’s image \nThis September\, our Sunday morning formation classes for kids kick off the year with a hands-on\, project-based series. We’ll explore what it means to be made in God’s image\, then start noticing that same image in the people around us and in the world God made. Along the way\, kids will discover how those two things connect: when we see God’s image in ourselves and in each other\, we help make his love visible. \nThe series builds toward a surprise class project — something the whole class creates together\, and something they’ll be proud to show off when it’s done.

SUMMARY:Mutual Ministry Reflections
DESCRIPTION:Which of those ministries are most meaningful to you? What challenges do you believe we face as a congregation? What are your hopes and dreams for Calvary in the coming years? \n  \nThese are the questions we\, as a congregation\, will answer together this fall as we move through a process called Mutual  Ministry Reflection (MMR). An MMR is a way for parishes and leadership to assess how well we are fulfilling our responsibilities to each other and to the ministry we share. It seems particularly timely for us to undertake this process now that we are past our parish renovations. \n  \nThe Mutual Ministry Reflection will be strongest if as many of us as possible participate. That’s why the vestry is hosting several hour-long focus groups in the coming months to answer the questions above. \n  \n\nSunday\, Sept. 27: during formation at 9:15\n\n\nSunday\, Oct. 4: Coffee Hour at 11:30 \n\n\nWednesday\, Oct. 21: at 6:15 p.m. following dinner \n\n\nOctober TBD: Zoom meeting (details to come) \n\n\n  \nThe information we receive from these focus groups will inform the vestry and rector as they move through the rest of the Mutual Ministry Reflection process\, guided by Canon Rob Courtney from the diocesan office. What we learn will guide the vestry’s work over the next year and beyond. \nWhether you attend a focus group or not\, please pray for our leadership and the ongoing ministry of Calvary Episcopal Church. \nIf you have any questions\, please contact Senior Warden Allison Parker at allisonwparker@mac.com.

DESCRIPTION:At the beginning of the 10:30 a.m. worship service\, children in grades JK-2 are invited to follow the banner out of the church to Children’s Chapel\, which is held in the Corner Room adjacent to the nursery. There\, children experience the Liturgy of the Word in an interactive and child-friendly manner. We sing\, pray\, and hear the stories of the Bible. Children are escorted back to church at the time of the Peace to join their families for Communion. All are welcome\, including younger children accompanied by a parent. Older children are invited to take on leadership roles\, such as reading prayers\, leading songs\, and distributing supplies. Please join us!

DESCRIPTION:The 10:30 a.m. Eucharist attracts a widely varied congregation of all ages\, including a strong contingent of young families. Music is led by the semi-professional Calvary Choir with participation from our Boys and Girls Choir\, St. Cecilia Choir (second grade and younger)\, and the Calvary Ringers handbell choir. \nWe also live-stream our Sunday morning Holy Eucharist at 10:30 a.m. each Sunday. DESCRIPTION:Children’s Coffee Hour is a new fellowship offering for our youngest parishioners and their families! We will gather on the patio for late morning fellowship\, refreshments\, music\, and Bible activities. The patio is adjacent to the Calvary Commons\, where our traditional coffee hour takes place. All ages are welcome; however\, those under age 6 would benefit from an adult companion. On wet or very hot days\, we will gather in the Mural Room instead.
