Conflict and Healing in the Modern Middle East

October 10 @ 9:15 am - 10:15 am

You probably heard that the conflict in Israel and Palestine has been in the news again this summer, but are you familiar with the ways in which the political, cultural, religious, and historical dimensions of this and other conflicts in the modern Middle East connect? Join University of Memphis professor Beverly Tsacoyianis as we discuss conflicts plaguing the region and some modes of healing—emotional, religious, medical, social, and even political—developing in these regions to build safer and more resilient communities to cope with a challenging political and economic landscape. For those who want to dig deeper, Dr. Tsacoyainis’s recent book, Disturbing Spirits: Mental Illness, Trauma and Treatment in Modern Syria and Lebanon, is available at novel bookstore and online.
