Eagle Scout Court of Honor

Calvary seniors Tom Crosby and Jack Peeples earned the rank of Eagle Scout in the summer of 2025, the culmination of an 11-year journey in scouting.

They joined Cub Scout Pack 34, housed at Grace-St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, as 1st graders in 2014. They crossed over into Troop 34 as 5th graders in 2019, where they advanced under the leadership of Scoutmaster Jim Martin.

The Eagle Scout rank is the highest attainable rank in the scouting program, earned by only a small percentage of scouts. It represents a scout’s dedication to the ideals of leadership, citizenship, and community service. It involves a comprehensive set of requirements, including earning a minimum of 21 merit badges, completing six months of troop leadership, and spearheading a significant community service project. Scouts progress through six earlier ranks—Scout, Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, and Life—before becoming eligible for the Eagle rank.

Tom and Jack chose Eagle projects that benefited Room in the Inn, an organization closely connected to Calvary. Tom created floating shelves and 65 wooden church replicas to honor each of the congregations that support RITI. The woodcutting took place in the home workshop of our very own Scott Walters, who tutored and supervised the scouts. The shelves and the churches are on permanent display in the lobby of RITI’s recuperative care site on Ayers Street. Jack worked under the supervision of Calvary’s facilities manager, Richard Hendricks, to design, build, paint, and install shelving units and hooks to outfit the bathrooms, showers, and closets at the Welcome Inn. These finishing touches enable Calvary to better serve our neighbors who find welcome and shelter through Room in the Inn.

Tom and Jack will celebrate their Eagle Court of Honor, along with fellow Troop 34 scouts Kellett Giles and Joshua Wittber, at Calvary at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 26, with a reception to follow in the Great Hall. Tom and Jack chose to have their ceremony at Calvary in recognition of the special role this parish has played in shaping their character, fostering their faith, and cementing their commitment to community service.
