Calvary Episcopal Church, 102 N 2nd St, Memphis, TN 38103, USA
SHOW FORTH GOD’S PRAISE: A Hymn Festival and Feast
Join us in thanksgiving to celebrate the completion of Calvary’s complete renovation on Sun., March 2, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. A hymn festival is an experience of word and song, where you are the choir. Guest organist and Yale University lecturer Walden Moore, will lead us on Calvary’s newly restored, historic Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ, revealing its glorious majesty, and inspiring us to sing. For forty years, Walden led services on our “sister” Aeolian-Skinner instrument, installed just months before ours, at Trinity on the Green (Episcopal), New Haven, CT.
Following the festival, we will progress to the Mural Room for a feast to celebrate the end of Epiphany in our new spaces. It will also mark that launch into Lent, a unique time at Calvary that fosters spiritual depth through the Lenten Preaching Series and caloric depth and community in the Waffle Shop.

March 19, 2025 11:00 am - 1:30 pm
It’s been 97 years since plates were piled up with waffles, chicken hash, and fish pudding at Calvary’s first Waffle Shop in Lent of 1928. For all that’s changed in our world since then, Memphians still stream to Calvary each year for these three dishes, as well as more “recent” additions such as shrimp mousse, tomato aspic, and Tennessee bourbon pie. Why some of these might not have been on the menu even as long as you’ve been alive! But Waffle Shop has become the ultimate annual comfort food for many, so we are pleased to let you know that it will be up and running again in 2025!
Dining is offered in person in the Mural Room on a first-come, first-served basis. Groups of 10+ can make reservations in advance by calling 901-525-6602. To-go meals will be offered.

CALVARY’S FIRST NOONDAY LENTEN SERVICE took place in a downtown theater 102 years ago. In the decades since, in peacetime and war, booms and depressions, moon landings and struggles for civil rights, and all the events that have shaped our common life in Memphis, Lenten Preaching Series preachers have spoken truthfully, hopefully, and prophetically to the world as it is, and to our lives as they are. They have nourished us when we’ve been depleted and challenged us to be God’s agents of healing, justice, and mercy in a world that has always needed much more of all three. And Calvary’s Lenten Preaching Series continues in 2025, adapting and speaking, as it always has, to the times. We hope you’ll join us.

Waffle Shop
March 20, 2025 11:00 am - 1:30 pm

Lenten Preaching Series: Nabil Bayakly
March 20, 2025 12:05 pm - 12:45 pm
