This Sunday

Sundays at Calvary include Basement Church, Holy Eucharist, Formation Classes for all ages, and more. Note that due to Phase II of construction, all formation offerings take place in the Grizzlies Prep building adjacent to Calvary, and we will not offer parish breakfast.

This Sunday in the adult formation class, we welcome Janel Bakker, a Memphis Theological Seminary professor. Together, we will explore what it means to love our neighbors and our enemies, especially during election season.

See the full schedule for this Sunday at the link below.

Evensong: May 5

A service with ancient roots, Evensong is a 40-minute choral-led service of prayers and scripture. If you need to sit and reflect, if music feeds your soul, if you can’t quite make it in the morning, if you believe that beauty is a portal to heaven, this is a service for you.

Philadelphia Eleven Film Screening

Wednesday, April 24, 6 p.m. at Buckman Performing Arts Center, 60 Perkins Extd. (FREE)

Thursday, May 2, 6 p.m. at Malco Paradiso Cinema Grill, 584 S. Mendenhall

In an act of civil disobedience, a group of women and their supporters organize their ordination to become Episcopal priests in 1974. The Church of the Advocate in Philadelphia welcomes them, but change is no small task. The women are harassed, threatened and banned from stepping on church property.

All are invited to watch one of these screenings. On May 19, Calvary will celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the Philadelphia Eleven. During formation, we’ll hear from the Rev. Mimsy Jones, the Rev. Eyleen Farmer, the Rev. Anne Carriere, and the Rev. Katherine Bush about their experiences as deacons and priests.

Pentecost: Calling all linguists!

In celebration of the gift of the Spirit on Pentecost, Calvary parishioners who speak other languages are invited to join in the reading of the lesson from the Acts of the Apostles in various tongues on Sunday, May 19, at the 10:30 a.m. worship service. Reach out to Ebet Peeples for more information.

Community Ministries

Room in the Inn

In May 2024, Calvary will begin providing Emergency Summer Shelter with Room in the Inn - Memphis every other FRIDAY night from May through September.  We need to walk over to pick up our guests by 5:15 at First Presbyterian Church. Our guests arrive at 5:30 pm, have dinner around 6 p.m., and spend time with our guests before they settle in for a comfortable, safe night of sleep at Calvary's WELCOME INN.  In the morning, our guests will have breakfast and depart by 6:30 am.  We will host a maximum of 15 guests.

We need volunteers to make beds, provide and/or serve dinner, wash linens, and clean up in the morning. For those who are willing, we also will need to have overnight shepherds to sleep at Calvary's Welcome Inn. Staying overnight is a wonderful opportunity to spend quality time listening to our guests and offering support and encouragement.  We cannot offer this life saving ministry without overnight shepherds.  As we will be hosting children and vulnerable adults, it is very important that our overnight shepherds are familiar with Safeguarding God's Children.

Please join us in making God’s love visible in downtown Memphis by helping us host our unsheltered and vulnerable guests in the RITI - Memphis Congregational Summer Shelter program. If you have any questions, please contact Betty Jo Dulaney at bettyjodulaney@gmail.com or Allison Linnevers at allison.linnevers71@gmail.com.
